Customer Interview Series: Guided Product Simulation with Tyler Worley

3 min read

About this series:

We spoke with the builders whose interactive demos were part of the top 1% of top-performing interactive demos from our State of the Interactive Product Demo 2024.

See how Tyler Worley at JumpCloud uses Navattic to create educational product demos for customers to use.

What was the process of actually building out interactive demos?

The process involves focusing on the diverse in-product features and categories available to our customers.

Given the variety of options, it can be overwhelming for new customers to navigate all the choices.

It's about showcasing all the different things they can do. When we build these interactive demos, we just show how to do these one step at a time.

Our approach in creating product simulations is to demonstrate these features step by step. This method allows customers to understand the process - so it helps them walk through it, see the process, and then they can jump in and do it on their own.

How do you plan and get internal alignment for demos?

It involves walking through the steps, so planning is crucial to know exactly what to do before starting. Then, I proceed through the entire process, deciding afterward whether to cut back or expand on certain aspects, based on the topic's requirements.

In terms of any internal review, it's usually on a case-by-case basis,

Especially for newer features I’ll consult product managers or subject matter experts to ensure our presentation aligns with their vision.

Any specific Navattic features or processes that you use to help build demos out faster?

With Navattic, it's straightforward to capture specific steps with a simple button press, making the process very efficient. You hit the button, and then it's done.

The new workflow introduced for creating product demos significantly enhances organization, which is particularly useful when managing numerous demos to ensure consistency.

It also helps make sure no one is editing a capture that is used in multiple demos.

Any tips on using Navattic?

Start with something simple and short to familiarize yourself with the process. Explore all the options available when building your flow, especially with the introduction of new features.

I recommend taking the time to learn these features to precisely place modals or tooltips as needed, enhancing the demo's effectiveness.

How have interactive demos have been received?

Internally, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The shift from Adobe XD, which was primarily screenshot-based, to Navattic has made a significant difference.

Additionally, previously when someone left the company, accessing their work became impossible if it was locked behind a password, leading to a lot of re-doing.

Now, with Navattic, the demos are more integrated with our product, allowing potential users to experience features without needing to sign up. This accessibility has been a major success internally.
